Dr. Grunwald attended the Colorado School of Mines where he received a B.S. in Engineering (1976). He then attended the University of Oregon where he earned his Masters degree in Mathematics (1978). Dr. Grunwald completed his Doctoral studies in Statistics at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington (1987).

From 1988-1996, Dr. Grunwald was a faculty member in the Department of Statistics at the University of Melbourne in Melbourne, Australia.

Dr. Grunwald has been on the faculty of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics since 1997. He also works with the Center for Human Nutrition at UCHSC and with the Cardiac Research Group at the Veterans Administration Medical Center.
