Dr. Richard Hoffman, a graduate of Stanford University, Stanford, California, (1971), has been with the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics here at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center since 1986. He is currently Associate Professor Adjunct. Dr. Hoffman has been a private consultant in epidemiology since 2002. He previously served as the State Epidemiologist (1987-2001) and Chief Medical Officer (1998-2001) for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Dr. Hoffman earned his Medical Degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas (1975) and received a Master of Public Health degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health, Baltimore, Maryland (1983). He is a Fellow of the American College of Epidemiology, is Board-certified in General Preventive Medicine, and a Fellow of the Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America. He is a past president of the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists and the Colorado Public Health Association. From 1993 to 1995, he served as Chair of the UCHSC Preventive Medicine Residency Advisory Committee. He is a past recipient of the Florence Sabin Award from the UCHSC.
