Lee S. Newman, M.D., M.A., FCCP, FACOEM is a Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics and Professor of Medicine in the Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and Division of Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center. He is the former head of the Division of Environmental and Occupational Health at National Jewish Medical and Research Center. |

Dr. Newman completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from Amherst College and a Masters of Arts Degree in social psychology at Cornell University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. He earned his Medical Doctorate from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. He completed his fellowship training in pulmonary medicine in 1986 at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and at National Jewish, where he studied immunotoxicology and occupational and environmental medicine. Beginning during his fellowship, Dr. Newman helped refine and apply a beryllium-specific blood-screening test, while conducting epidemiologic and immunology research. His research has also focused on the relationship between genetics and environmental triggers for lung disease, as well as studies on occupational asthma, silicosis, asbestos, environmental allergies, and radiation-induced lung fibrosis. |
