Dr. Dana Dabelea is a graduate of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Timisoara, Romania. Dr. Dabelea received her M.D. degree (1990), achieved her Residency in Internal Medicine (1994) and Diabetes, Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases (1998), and completed her doctoral studies in Medical Sciences (1997).

Dr. Dabelea was a post-doctoral fellow with the Phoenix Epidemiology and Field Studies Branch of the National Institutes of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Disease in Phoenix, Arizona (1997-1999) studying type 2 Diabetes among American Indian children and adolescents.

Dr. Dabelea is an Associate Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics. She joined the faculty in 2001.
